Van Raam is a manufacturer of adapted bicycles. Besides tricycles, wheelchair bikes, tandems, side-by-side tandems, low entry bikes and a walking aid, Van Raam also makes a scooter bike: the Easy Go. The Easy Go can be used in three different positions:

  • As a bicycle

  • As an electric bike

  • As a mobility scooter

This makes the Easy Go extremely suitable for people with a varying energy level who want to move around independently.

Alternative mobility scooter: the Easy Go

The Easy Go is a good alternative for a mobility scooter. The Easy Go has the same advantages as a mobility scooter, you can move yourself independently. In addition, the Easy Go offers the additional option of (electric) cycling. It is a mobility scooter and bicycle in one. The Easy Go has a footplate which you fold up when you want to (electrically) cycle, both forwards and backwards. When the footplate is folded down, you can use the Easy Go as a mobility scooter. In the mobility scooter mode you can drive forward and backward with 5, 10, or 15 km per hour.

Differences between the Easy Go and a mobility scooter

There are some major differences between the Easy Go and a mobility scooter. One big difference, for example, is the way of giving gas. On a mobility scooter you give gas by squeezing a lever. On the Easy Go with a thumb throttle or hand throttle (optional). Another difference is the way the vehicle comes to a stop. On a mobility scooter this is by releasing a lever and on the scooter bike this is by operating the hand brake(s), just like on a bicycle. Read all the differences in the article 'Difference between the scooter bike and the mobility scooter'.

Customer experience scooter bike Easy Go - Astrid van der Plank
I am Astrid van der Plank (44) and I own the Easy Go scooter bike since July 2018. I use a scooter bike because I have Spinocerebellar Ataxia type 28 (SCA28). SCA28 is a rare chronic neurological disease that, among other things, causes balance and coordination problems. When I could no longer cycle on a bike with two wheels, because I fell continuously, I started looking at alternatives. I tried several Van Raam bikes, but nowadays I am happy to use my scooter bike Easy Go.

User experience scooter bike Easy Go - Natascha van Leeuwen
Natascha van Leeuwen (49) uses the Van Raam's mobility scooter bike Easy Go since February 2019. In 2014, Natascha heard that she has Parkinson's disease, because she still wants to keep her mobility and stay independent, she went looking for (and tries) different mobility aids. For example, during her daytime activity group she cycled on the Fun2Go side by side tandem, she tried the Maxi tricycle and she rode a mobility scooter. Eventually she concluded that the Easy Go mobility scooter bike suits her best. Read in this user experience the experiences of Natascha with her Easy Go.

Customer experience scooter bike Easy Go - Ankie van den Bosch
When they discovered I have Multiple Sclerosis* in 2000, I already had an e-bike for several years. Because my strength and energy continued to decrease, cycling became unsafe and I became insecure. It became difficult to get out of the car, to get away at a traffic light or to brake. And all this began to demand a lot of effort in traffic. I got scared when the wind was very strong. I avoided bridges and dunes.
