The difference between the Silent and Silent HT motors

Van Raam has two different types of motors: the Silent and the Silent HT electric motor. Read more about these motors in this article with video. The Silent HT has more Nm specially developed by us.

What is the difference between the Silent and Silent HT electric motors?

Van Raam has a Silent and a Silent HT electric motor. The difference between these motors is that the Silent HT electric motor is slightly larger than the regular Silent motor. Additionally, the Silent HT electric motor also weighs slightly more than the Silent. The Silent electric motor weighs 5.7 kg and the Silent HT weighs 7 kg. However, the most important difference lies in the power of the motors.

Difference in power

The biggest difference between the electric motors is the power. The Silent HT has more Nm (Newton meters) than the Silent electric motor. The Silent electric motor has 45 Nm and the Silent HT has 60 Nm. Nm is the unit for the amount of force that rotates an object around an axis or pivot point, which is also called 'torque'.

Because the Silent HT has more Nm, its power is greater than that of the Silent electric motor. The Silent HT motor is therefore very suitable for:

  • Heavier bicycles, such as the Fun2Go side-by-side tandembike, VeloPlus wheelchair bike, or Chat rickshaw bike.

  • Users who frequently ride in mountainous areas.

  • Users with reduced pedaling power.

  • Users who want to ride longer and further without getting tired quickly.

Please note: Due to the powerful torque of the Silent HT, this motor consumes slightly more electricity on average.

Did you know?

Did you know that the speed of the electric motors/pedal assistance is limited to a maximum speed of 25 kilometers per hour? This is the maximum allowed speed of electric bicycles in the Netherlands.

Position of the motor on the bike

Van Raam has 3 electric motors; the VR1F Silent, VR2F Silent HT and VR2R Silent HT. The only difference between the 2 Silent HT electric motors is the position of the motor on the bike; front or rear. The electric motors of Van Raam are placed in the front wheel, rear wheel, or on the rear frame between the wheels. The VR1F and VR2F are placed in the front wheel of the bike and, in some bikes, are also installed on the rear frame between the rear wheels. The VR2R is placed in the rear wheel of our bikes. Would you like to know why? Then read on quickly in the article 'Why a front or rear hub motor instead of a mid-drive motor'.
