Tricycles for adults

Adults who cannot ride a regular two-wheel bicycle (anymore), want to find a good and safe alternative. Van Raam's tricycle or trike is specially designed for adults and seniors who want extra support and stability while cycling.

Van Raam has various types of tricycles:

  • Traditional tricycles: two wheels behind and one wheel in front, high seat.

  • Comfortable tricycle: with seating, low entry and lower seating position.

  • Mobility scooter bicycle: can also be used without pedalling.

Traditional tricycle, two wheels behind and one wheel in front, high seat.

The 'traditional tricycle' is a bike with two wheels behind and one wheel in front, where the seat is located above the crank axle. You pedal almost directly downwards and sit relatively high on the bike. Because the frame of the tricycle – in contrast to the regular bicycle – does not lean in turns, riding a tricycle like this takes some getting used to. Children or people that have never ridden a bike will have no trouble with it. Experienced bikers can feel like they might tip over when they take their first turn. Because the tricycle has three wheels, this will of course not happen.

Due to the relatively high seating position, your centre of gravity is high and that makes the bike feel more unstable. With a single front wheel, this type of bike is quite manoeuvrable, especially because all Van Raam's adult tricycles are equipped with a differential. Van Raam has many different sizes for this type of tricycle.

The Maxi and Midi of Van Raam are examples of this type of custom bike.

Comfortable tricycle with seating, low entry and lower seating position.

For those who want to ride comfortably and who continue to have difficulty with standard tricycles, there is a stable and comfortable tricycle with seat and recumbent pedalling. Your centre of gravity is much lower and you have a completely different sitting position. This makes the bike feel sturdy and safe right away.

Almost everyone can ride this bike without any getting used to. Most users like having the steering bar in front of them, this feels more natural during riding. The special seat supports the back and has a wide seating area. This bicycle position causes much less strain on the back, neck, shoulders and wrists.

Our experience is that about 90% of people trying all variants, ultimately choose this type of bike. A common comment we hear about this model is that it is so long. This is more an optical feeling than an objective observation. The tricycle is 18 cm longer than the standard tricycle and 20 cm longer than a standard two-wheel bike.

This tricycle is available in an adult and junior version. There is also a sporty version with low steering.

Mobility scooter bicycle

For people who have a varying energy level, cannot ride a bicycle on two wheels anymore, who want to be able to pedal but not have to if necessary, the Easy Go is the way to go. The Easy Go is a highly manoeuvrable compact electric tricycle that you can use in different ways. You can pedal under your own power, you can pedal with electric support or you can use the thumb-operated throttle, just like on a mobility scooter. This is available with different degrees of support and different speeds.
