The province of Gelderland (the Netherlands) wants to help companies to make the step towards Industry 4.0: "a smart and clean industry in which waste is the new raw material. Remove the chimney from the factories and put 3D printers and robots in it," says Michiel Scheffer.
Companies with construction plans were able to use a tender arrangement to organize the company in a smarter and cleaner way from May 1st until September 1st, 2018. A subsidy of up to € 200,000 was made available for the best initiatives.
With the Tender Smart and Clean demonstration plants, Gelderland has been looking for beautiful examples for the factory of the future. These examples should inspire (SME)-companies to set up their factory in a smarter and cleaner way and show young people that the industry can offer a modern working environment.
The submitted proposals have received points in the categories 'smarter' (digitization, according to criteria of the national project agency Smart Industry), 'cleaner' (energy efficiency and circularity, according to existing performance ladders and standards) and 'knowledge sharing' (how to reach sister companies , for example with guided tours or an open house).
