Van Raam produces uniquely special needs bicycles and specializes in tricycles, transport bikes, scooterbikes, wheelchair bikes, tandem bikes, double rider bikes, and low step trough bikes (also known as comfortbikes). Each model is also available as an electric bike (Pedelec).
The Fun2Go of Van Raam is a popular side by side bike whereby the riders sit next to each other and is widely used among others by care institutions. Read in this article 6 tips for cycling on a side by side bike.
Tip 1. Determine the route in advance
Think in advance about the route you want to cycle with the side by side bike. Choose as much as possible for wide and smooth cycling paths, without potholes and bumps. Decide in advance, together with the co-driver, how long you want to cycle and whether you want to take a break on the way. Also discuss with the co-driver whether he or she would like to visit a certain location.
Tip 2. Check the side by side bike before you go cycling
Check the Fun2Go side by side bike before you go for a bike ride. Before each ride, check:
The brakes (including the parking brake)
The tire pressure
The lighting
That all parts are properly secured
That the battery is sufficiently charged (optional)
While cycling, wear appropriate clothing. Avoid loose-fitting items of clothing that can get caught in the chain or wheels of the side by side bike. This can lead to dangerous situations. Also make sure you are not dressed too hot or too cold.
Tip 4. Determine the bike position of the co-driver in advance
The driver of the Fun2Go side by side bike is the only one who steers and brakes. With the optional switchablefreewheel hub, the driver can set the way of cycling for the co-driver on the Fun2Go.
The rider's pedals move with the driver's pedals. The co-driver must cycle along.
The co-driver's pedals move independently of the driver's pedals. The pedals rotate freely and the co-driver cannot cycle with them.
In this position, the co-driver's pedals move independently of the driver's pedals. The co-driver can cycle along.
Tip 5. Use the parking brake when getting on and off the bike
The Fun2Go is equipped with a parking brake, this brake is located on the front of the rider's handlebars. Use the parking brake when you park the bike (and leave it behind), so the bike cannot roll away. Also, use the parking brake to block the bike from rolling away when getting on and off the bike.
Tip 6. Communicate with each other
The big advantage of the Fun2Go is the sitting position of the users next to each other. This makes it possible to communicate with each other. The driver can keep an eye on how the co-driver is doing. Is the passenger still comfortable on the bike, or should the pace perhaps be increased or decreased?
