From 2020, it's possible to install a winch system on the VeloPlus wheelchair transport bike as a new option. The winch makes it easier to place the wheelchair on the wheelchair bike. Read more about this new option, the use of the winch and watch an instruction video.
A winch is a lifting or pulling device used to pull or lift an object. A winch acts as a kind of pulley; with a pulling movement, a wire or belt is turned or wound around a shaft and the object can be pulled or lifted.
The winch on the VeloPlus wheelchair transport bikewith pedal support makes it easier to place the wheelchair with wheelchair user on the bike. The hook of the winch can be attached to the wheelchair and with the help of a remote control the winch can be pulled down or rolled up electrically. This makes it easy to ride the wheelchair on the tilting platform without manpower.
The winch system on the VeloPlus makeseasier to place a wheelchair user on the bicycle. Not every wheelchair and wheelchair user has the same weight and not every wheelchairbike rider has the same strength. The winch helps the process of loading and unloading the wheelchair with wheelchair user on the tilting ramp on the VeloPlus.
Instead of the driver using his or her own power to push the wheelchair user including the wheelchair up or down the bicycle, the winch takes over. The driver only has to attach the hook and roll the wheelchair onto the ramp using the control panel on the bicycle or the remote control.

It is also possible to have the winch mounted on your current VeloPlus in our factory. Please contact your Van Raam dealer for more information.
The winch system on the VeloPlus is easy to use. In the user manual of the VeloPlus you will find a more detailed explanation with pictures. In order to use the winch system:
1. Turn on the electric system. Check if the light on the control panel is on. If that is not the case, you can turn on the winch system by briefly pressing the on/off button on the electric system's display.
2. Engage the bike's parking brake by squeezing the left brakeand locking the brake with the small lever.
3. Remove the safety pin of the tilted ramp.
4. Pull the lever up to disengage and drop the ramp.
5. Use the control panel on the bike or the remote control to unspool the winch. Press and hold the button and guide the winch at the same time, so it unspools in the right way. (Please note: do not unspool the winch beyond the red stripe on the band.)
6. Position the wheelchair straight in front of the ramp and attach the hook to the
wheelchair. Please note! Make sure that the hook is placed as close to the ground as possible and in the centre of the wheelchair to avoid it tilting over or being pulled sideways.
7. Use the control panel to respool the winch again. Press and hold the button and guide the wheelchair at the same time, so it is positioned straight on the ramp.
8. Pull up the wheelchair to the point that the ramp tilts and automatically locks into place. You will hear an audible click.
9. Secure the wheelchair by attaching it to the wheelchair bike with the three belts.
