Van Raam has 3 tricycles for adults with two wheels in the front and one wheel in the back. These are our wheelchair bikes, the OPair and VeloPlus, and our rickshaw bike, the Chat. With these tricycles with 2 wheels in the front, you can cycle together with someone who is no longer able to cycle independently.
With a tricycle with 2 wheels in the front (for adults) and one wheel in the back, you can always estimate the width of the bike and see if it fits through or along any part. Van Raam has three tricycles in its assortment with two wheels in the front and one in the back for adults:
With these tricycles, you sit directly above the pedal bracket, allowing you to pedal straight down and sit relatively high on the bike. This gives you a good overview of both the passenger and the surroundings. A bike with two wheels in the front steers differently from one with a single front wheel, so it may take some time to get used to.
The OPair wheelchair bike is specially designed for individuals dependent on a wheelchair. The passenger can easily sit in the seat at the front of the bike. Features such as foldable footrests ensure an accessible entry. The OPair wheelchair bike can be equipped with various options so that the bike can be fully adapted to your needs. Options include an electric motor with comfortable pedal assist, making cycling on the OPair even easier.
For adults who use a wheelchair and still want to enjoy a bike ride, the VeloPlus wheelchair bike is ideal. With this bike, the passenger can remain seated in their own wheelchair. The wheelchair can easily be rolled onto the tilting platform at the front. The VeloPlus is available with different options, including pedal assist, a pannier, and a mirror.
On the Chat rickshaw bike, the rider can take two passengers seated at the front. This makes the Chat suitable for care facilities, families, or holiday parks. The passengers sit side by side in the comfortable seat, allowing easy conversation. The Chat comes standard with pedal assist and can be equipped with various options such as a canopy or a walking stick holder.
A tricycle with two wheels in front has many advantages:
It is possible to equip the VeloPlus and OPair with Van Raam's unique pedal assist system. The Chat comes standard with pedal assist. You don't need much power to pedal and the three different pedal assist modes are individually adjustable so that you always get the right support. The special thing about the electric system is that you have the possibility to ride backwards. The article "Riding backwards with pedal assistance on a custom bike" explains everything about this function.

If it's not possible to ride a standard two-wheeled bike due to stability problems or other limitations, a three-wheeled bike is a good solution. Due to illness or aging, you may come to the stage where cycling with a standard bicycle is not (or no longer) possible or is no longer safe. The risk of falling is too big and getting on and off the bike is no longer possible, so participating in traffic is no longer safe for you and your fellow road users.
Do you have years of experience cycling on a two-wheel bike but can’t do that anymore? Or are you unable to cycle on a two-wheel bike due to a certain limitation? Then the trike bike (or tricycle) is an excellent way to keep moving. But how do you ride a trike bike? In this article, we will show you the best way to learn to ride a tricycle.
