Various types of a trike for disabled adults

Besides thetraditional tricycles Maxi, and Midi which have two wheels in the back and one wheel in front and a high seating, there are also 3-wheel bikes for disabled adults where you can have both feet on the ground, at any given time. On the other side, a three wheel bike for disabled adults can also have two wheels in front and one wheel in the back. A comfortable adult tricycle with a low seating and entry position can also be found in the assortment by Van Raam. A special three-in-one mobility scooter bicycle from Van Raam can also be used without stepping. In order to give the best quality, Van Raam has since 2011 an own electrical pedal support called Silent System. The motor, battery, controller, the Smart Display and software are developed by Van Raam.

Comfortable trike for disabled adults

For those who want to ride comfortably and who maintain to have difficulties with standard trikes, there is a stable and comfortable trike for disabled adults, the Easy Rider, with seat and forwards pedaling movement. Your center of gravity is much lower, and you have a completely different sitting position. This makes the bike feel sturdy and safe right away.

Almost everyone can ride this bike right away. Most cyclists like to have the steering in front of them, because this feels more natural during the bike ride. The special seat with back support, supports the back. This bicycle position causes much less strain on the back, neck, shoulders, and wrists.

Our experience is that about 90% of people trying all variants, ultimately choose this type of bike.

The Easy Rider is specially designed for adults, but there are also two other versions of the bike: the Easy Rider Compact for smaller adults, the Easy Rider Small for children or smaller adults and the sportive Easy Sport. There is also a smaller variant of the Easy Sport called the Easy Sport Small, designed for children and smaller adults.

Traditional 3-wheel bikes for disabled adults

A tricycle with two wheels on the back side and one wheel in front that is who most people see as a ‘traditional tricycle'. The Maxi and Midi of Van Raam are examples of this type of custom bike. You pedal almost straight downwards and sit relatively high on the bike. With the frame of the trike — in contrast to the regular bicycle — you cannot bow in turns, riding a trike like this takes some time in order to get used to it. Children or people that have never ridden a two-wheel bike will have no trouble learning it. Experienced bikers can feel like they might tip over when they take their first turn. Because the tricycle has three wheels, this will of course not happen. For more information read our article on how to ride an adult tricycle.

For adults who want a "traditional tricycle" but have trouble estimating the available width when riding, there are two tricycles with two wheels in front and one wheel behind: the Viktor and the Viktoria tricycles, whereby the Viktoria is designed for smaller adults. As a result, the cyclist can always assess whether he can go through or get by something.

Cycling on a tricycle for adults

Adult tricycle with a low entry

A three wheel bike for disabled adults with a low entry is the Maxi Comfort. As indicated before, the bike has a low, wide step through and a different seating position. The seat is not located above the crank axle, but a little bit behind it. In this way, you can always get both feet on the ground and still have optimal knee movement in combination with the lower seating position.

With the Maxi comfort, stepping on the bike is different but easy: you can pull the bike underneath you once you have placed a leg on both sides of the bike. Because the center of gravity is lower, this tricycle has a different sitting position and a high level of comfort. Due to this sitting position, your back, shoulders, neck, and wrists are less stressed.
