8 most asked questions about the VeloPlus wheelchair bike
The VeloPlus is a wheelchair bike from Van Raam. In this article, you will find the 8 most frequently asked questions and their answers about the VeloPlus.Â
1. What kind of wheelchair bike is the VeloPlus?
The VeloPlus is a wheelchair transport bike which can be used to transport people in their own handheld wheelchairs. This means that no transfer is required between the wheelchair and the bike, and that the wheelchair user always has their own wheelchair with them. The VeloPlus has a modern design and also has unique driving characteristics. The wide-legged and extra-steering front wheels ensure a reduced turning radius and stability.
2. How do you place the wheelchair on the platform?
The wheelchair with passenger can easily be driven onto the tiltable platform without any lifting aid or great effort. The wheelchair is then secured using the wheelchair lock; consisting of a number of fixing hooks and a safety belt. It is also possible to have the VeloPlus equipped with a winch system. Instead of the driver using his or her own strength to push the wheelchair user, including the wheelchair, on or off the bicycle, the electric winch takes over.
Tip: See the article and video 'Placing a wheelchair on Van Raam VeloPlus wheelchair bike' for more information on how to secure the wheelchair to the platform.
3. Can an electric wheelchair be transported on the VeloPlus?
An electric wheelchair is often too heavy or too wide to be transported on the VeloPlus. We therefore recommend that only manual wheelchairs be transported on the VeloPlus. This is because the VeloPlus is designed to accommodate a passenger including a wheelchair weighing up to a maximum of 140kg. The maximum width of the wheelchair is 72 cm. These specifications make manual wheelchairs more suitable for transport on the VeloPlus wheelchair bike. If an electric wheelchair meets these requirements, it can be transported on the VeloPlus. However, it is important to make sure that the weight is distributed correctly on the platform. This is because the centre of gravity of an electric wheelchair is often different from that of a manual wheelchair. As an option, the VeloPlus can be configured with an reinforced frame (passenger including wheelchair can weigh up to 200 kg). Are you unsure whether your electric wheelchair can be transported on the VeloPlus? Then please contact a Van Raam dealer in your area.
4. Can the VeloPlus be fitted with an electric motor?
It is possible to have the VeloPlus fitted with pedal assistance. This makes cycling with the wheelchair bike even more comfortable. If you choose this option, the VeloPlus will be delivered with Van Raam's Silent system. Van Raam has developed all components of this system specifically for adapted bicycles. Bicycles with pedal assistance are produced as a Smart E-bike with the Van Raam app. With the Van Raam app, you can set a different support mode on your Van Raam bike. See below for the benefits of the Silent System:

Maximum bicycle width: 110 cm
Maximum bike height: 114 cm
Weight of the bike: 64 kg (without electrical system)
Turning radius: 7.1 m (7.5 m with reinforced frame)
See all specifications on the product page of the VeloPlus.
6. Can the VeloPlus wheelchair bike be easily transported?
This depends on the means of transport you want to use to transport the wheelchair bike. However, it is possible to have the VeloPlus equipped with a divisible frame. This makes storing and transporting the wheelchair bike easier. The front part of the frame (handlebars with ramp and front wheels) can then be disconnected from the rear part (saddle and rear wheel). See the article and video 'How to divide the Van Raam wheelchair bike VeloPlus' for more information.
7. What are the most popular options for the VeloPlus?

Anti-puncture tyres
